His career started with Redpath of Kelso in 1955, then with WM Robertson of Glasgow and Sutherland Fly in Helmsdale. He then spent seven years in Hong Kong as tutor/manager of a large fly dressing company. Returning to Scotland, he and his wife Gloria set up their own business in Durness, Sutherland, before moving to Torthorwald, Dumfries in 1979.
