The Art of Tying the Bass Fly
USD 19.67
Fly-fishing for bass continues to be one of the fastest-growing segments of our sport. There are several reasons, but the most important are that bass are more fun to catch and are more widely distributed than trout and other coldwater fish. Bass get a bad rap; they are not witless, gullible gluttons, but actually become selective feeders faster than trout. Bass have also been shown to have higher IQs than trout, so your imitations must closely match the naturals on which they feed. Bass flies have undergone a major evolution in refinement and are now on par with the quality and design of the flies tied for coldwater species, like trout and salmon. Renowned fly tier and innovator Skip Morris guides you through the unique world of bass flies, including basic techniques & tools; bass-fly materials & hooks; flaring & shaping hair; tying snag guards, eyes, tails, & legs. Fly types include: Floating, Sinking, Divers, Insects & Crayfish, and Panfish. So give the trout and salmon a break, go catch some feisty bass on a large, noisy, and active.

Creative Fly Tying (Masters on the Fly series)
USD 29.17
The book serious fly tiers across the country have been waiting for. California's Mike Mercer--whose highly original trout patterns have made him one of Umpqua Faether Merchants' top fly designers--offers fresh and thought-provoking insights to the art of fly tying in Creative Fly Tying, his first book. These concepts are drawn from a lifetime spent on the water fishing and guiding, studying the prey and feeding habits of fish. Mercer shows how to think differently about trout flies; he explains which materials to use and why. He reveals the evolutions and epiphanies that went into the creation of 12 of his favorite innovative patterns: Gold Bead Poxyback Green Drake Nymph, Copper Bead Micro Z-Wing Caddis, Profile Spinner, Rag Sculpin, Micro Mayfly Nymph, Alaska Lemming, PMD Trigger Nymph, Gold Bead Biot Epoxy Golden Stone Nymph, Sac Fry, Rag Hex Nymph, Zebra Midgeling, Glasstail Caddis Pupa. Very little is left to chance in these deadly flies--they are truly designed, head to tail. Tying sequences are elaborately and exquisitely photographed in super-sharp detail by Ted Fauceglia, America's foremost macro-photographer of aquatic insects.

Fly Tying Illustrated: Flies You Can Count On To Catch Trout
USD 29.15
The patterns and tying techniques presented in this book are unique. With few exceptions you will not find these flies in other books nor will you find them for sale at your local fly shop. A little over forty years ago I was exposed to the world of fly fishing and tying at the young age of fourteen. From the very beginning I was fortunate to live in an area of Northern Michigan that was rich in the traditions of both fly-fishing and fly tying. Local tiers like Leonard Halladay, Art Winnie, and Ralph Hanna were inspirational as I began putting feather and hair to hooks in an effort to produce something that looked enticing to the local trout population. Streams like the Boardman, the Au Sable, and the Big Manistee were close at hand and offered ample opportunity to test my flies. The Hex hatch was an "event" in our neck of the woods and facilitated my being able to either catch or at least observe huge trout frantically feeding on the surface at night. This hatch more than anything else was the reason for my life long interest in fly tying. In this book I have put together my favorite fly patterns. Not all of them are my own design but with nearly all of them I have added my own modifications making them a little different and perhaps a little more practical than what you'll find elsewhere. Some books offer more sophisticated patterns that in some cases are real works of art and that's fine. The flies in this book are intended to help you catch trout and with that I am confident they will become some of your all time favorites.
